1: Introduction to the Indian Violin

•  Overview of the Indian violin as a classical instrument
•  Understanding the structure and parts of the violin
•  Proper holding and positioning of the violin and bow

2: Basic Bowing Techniques**

•  Learning fundamental bowing techniques (e.g., long bowing, short bowing, etc.)
•  Developing control and fluidity in bowing movements
•  Practicing bowing exercises to improve tone and expression

3: Introduction to Indian Classical Music**

• Understanding the basic concepts of Indian classical music (Raga, Tala, etc.)
•  Introduction to the seven basic swaras (notes) and microtones (Gamakas)
•  Learning to play and recognize the Swaras on the violin

4: Finger Placement and Shifting**

• Mastering proper finger placement on the fingerboard
• Learning to shift between different positions smoothly
• Practicing exercises for intonation and finger dexterity

5: Indian Classical Ragas on Violin**

•  Introduction to major Ragas and their characteristics
•  Learning the Arohana (ascending) and Avarohana (descending) of Ragas
•  Practicing Alankars and melodic patterns in Ragas on the violin

6: Talas and Rhythms**

•  Understanding the concept of Talas (rhythmic cycles) in Indian music
•  Learning common Talas and their variations
•  Accompanying Tabla or other percussion instruments to practice rhythm

7: Indian Violin Compositions**

•  Learning traditional Indian classical compositions (e.g., Bandish, Varnam, etc.)
•  Understanding the structure and theme of the compositions
•  Emphasizing proper phrasing and ornamentation in renditions

8: Gamakas and Vibrato**

•  Exploring Gamakas (ornamentation techniques) on the violin
•  Introduction to Vibrato for adding expression to the music
•  Practicing Gamakas and Vibrato in various Ragas and compositions

9: Improvisation and Alap**

•  Understanding the concept of Alap, the slow introductory section of a Raga
•  Learning to improvise and explore Ragas on the violin
•  Developing creativity and spontaneity in improvisations

10: Violin Solo Performance**

•  Preparing for solo performances on the violin
•  Creating captivating solo pieces showcasing the knowledge acquired
•  Understanding the importance of presentation and stage presence

11: Accompaniment and Collaboration**

•  Exploring the role of the violin in accompanying other instruments and vocalists
•  Practicing duets and collaborations with other musicians
•  Developing communication and synchronization skills during  accompaniment

12: Conclusion and Student Showcase**

•  Reviewing the entire course material and progress made by each student
•  Students perform their chosen violin pieces, compositions, and improvisations in a virtual showcase
•  Evaluation and feedback on individual performances
